Yakima Copperhead Roof Bike Rack
The Copperhead is a front fork mounted design so the front wheel needs to be removed and stored separately.
The front fork is attached to a lockable skewer although the locks are an extra (SKS Lock Cores) which locks the bike to the rack.
The bike is in a more aerodynamic position on top without the front wheel which cuts down wind drag a bit.
The mounting rack fits round and square crossbars and the tray will accommodate a big variety of tire sizes, wheels and front forks.
No part of the bike frame is touched the points of contact are the rear wheel that sits in the tray and securely tied down plus the front forks. This is a good design for your carbon rig.
The rack weighs 3.8lbs and measures 3-inches wide x 48-inches long.
The carrying capacity is 1 bike only.
Yakima support this bike rack with a lifetime warranty.

The Bike Rack Test – Yakima Copperhead Roof Mount Bike Rack
The 7 essential ‘components’ that go into making a good bike rack:
1. Quick and simple to install -
Easy to install the rack onto the crossbars, for a roof mount rack that is. Once you are used to it about 5 – 10 mins.
Component Grade 8/10 [1 to 10 (Pass grade is 7) 1-very bad, 3-bad, 5-average, 6-okay, 7-good, 9-very good, 10-excellent]
2. Attaches very snugly -
Attaches perfectly to round and square crossbars, very secure.
Component Grade 10/10 [1 to 10 (Pass grade is 7) 1-very bad, 3-bad, 5-average, 6-okay, 7-good, 9-very good, 10-excellent]
3. Quick and easy to load and unload bikes -
Quicker to load the bike on top without the front wheel, a bit easier to haul the bike on top. If you have an issue reaching up top consider a Tire Step. Have to carry the front wheel though, in the vehicle or up top.
Component Grade 8/10 [1 to 10 (Pass grade is 7) 1-very bad, 3-bad, 5-average, 6-okay, 7-good, 9-very good, 10-excellent]
4. Loading system that fits a variety of bike frames and bike sizes -
It carries most bikes with a quick release wheel skewer. Some exceptions are bikes with front wheels that are nutted, triple clamp forks, and those with dropout spacing (other than 100mm), and bikes with disc brakes. The mount design doesn’t touch the frame anywhere so it’s good for a carbon rig.
Component Grade 7/10 [1 to 10 (Pass grade is 7) 1-very bad, 3-bad, 5-average, 6-okay, 7-good, 9-very good, 10-excellent]
5. Secure 2x locking system -
Can’t lock the rack to the vehicle which is a security risk. The bike can be locked to the rack with a locking skewer using SKS Lock Cores but unfortunately these are extra.
Component Grade 3/10 [1 to 10 (Pass grade is 7) 1-very bad, 3-bad, 5-average, 6-okay, 7-good, 9-very good, 10-excellent]
6. Designed to stop damage -
No damage can be done (unless a thief steals the lot because there are no locks included), the frame isn’t touched so no chance of marking, easier to load so less chance of scratching the roof on top.
Component Grade 8/10 [1 to 10 (Pass grade is 7) 1-very bad, 3-bad, 5-average, 6-okay, 7-good, 9-very good, 10-excellent]
7. Anti-road vibration technology -
Nothing can work itself loose on bumpy roads from road vibration which is good news.
Component Grade 10/10 [1 to 10 (Pass grade is 7) 1-very bad, 3-bad, 5-average, 6-okay, 7-good, 9-very good, 10-excellent]

Failed 1 out of the 7 essential components. Good solid rack if you are happy to remove the front wheel and store separately this is a good rack except the security issue. Can’t lock the rack to the vehicle at all. And the SKS lock cores are an annoying extra! Total grade 54 out of 70 |
